Project Overview

When my clients moved into their new home, they were eager to transform a spare room into a space that worked for both of them. They envisioned a multi-functional area that could serve as a home office for her and her husband, a cozy retreat for their two cats, and a welcoming spot for guests, all while reflecting their shared love of transitional design, blending traditional and modern styles. The design also needed to strike a balance between masculine and feminine elements, ensuring the space felt equally comfortable and functional for both of them. Together, we brought this vision to life, balancing functionality with timeless elegance.

A Thoughtful Blend of Functionality and Style

The design began with a statement piece: a centrally placed desk that draws attention as soon as you walk through the double doors. Behind it, we incorporated bookcases or cabinets to showcase cherished keepsakes, adding a personal touch. For their cats, a bench was placed by the sunlit windows, crafted from pet-friendly materials that seamlessly fit the transitional aesthetic. Near the entrance, a blank wall became a focal point, adorned with either a grand map to evoke timeless charm or a mirror to enhance the room’s spaciousness. A comfy, modern chair and side table created an inviting spot for guests to relax and connect.

Turning Challenges into Creative Opportunities

One of the most exciting challenges was reimagining a small, awkward space behind the entry door. After collaborating with my clients, we transformed it into a stylish wet bar with a sideboard and floating shelves; a perfect spot to unwind with a drink or entertain guests. Neutral furnishings with bold pops of color tied everything together, while the balance of bold and delicate accents ensured a harmonious design. The result is a space that truly serves everyone in the family, human and feline alike.
